# 30 – A Treasure Found – Domes Covered in Copper

Once in a while a real gem is rediscovered.  The congregation is going through a process of having our synagogue declared an historical site.  In order to have that happen, we approached the city department responsible for such things and a report was created by a group of volunteers knowledgeable about history and historical buildings.  Just a few weeks ago, in late March of 2024, a preliminary draft report was filed with us for the congregation to approve prior to it going to the city fathers.  On the cover of that report is the picture shown above. It was taken in 1944 long before the domes were removed from the roof of our building.  Here is that picture.  It is being shown because in an earlier posting, the removal of the domes was written about.  But also enjoy what it must have looked like to visitors before there was even a thought of a Jewish community centre.
