Donate

Donations to CBI provide a convenient and meaningful way to honour someone, offer a speedy recovery, mark a special occasion, or offer condolences. They are a vital source of funds that helps ensure CBI can continue to operate as a focal point for the Jewish Community of Niagara. Donors are typically mentioned in our weekly ebulletins. There are many ways to donate to CBI:

Our “Funds”

Many donors prefer to honour a specific role the synagogue performs that is near and dear to them. We offer the following “funds” for this type of donation:

  • Museum, Archives & Educational Fund – for the upkeep and maintenance of our museum/archives and to offset the costs of educational classes
  • Blue Barrel Fund – donations are allocated to Community Care of St. Catharines & Thorold for those in need in the broader St. Catharines community. The synagogue also has two barrels ready to accept food-based donations.
  • Kiddush Fund – used to help offset the cost to sponsor lunches and snacks after our services and special events.
  • Chesed Fund – allocated to the Chesed Committee for the well being of synagogue members
  • Pulpit Fund – used for costs associated with resources needed for religious services.
  • Security Fund – to help offset the costs for security guards and other safety related needs.
  • General Fund – for any function not otherwise mentioned.

An appropriate acknowledgment will be sent to the recipient you wish to acknowledge upon receipt of your donation.

eBulletin Sponsorships

CBI sends weekly ebulletins to its membership to keep them abreast of the coming week’s events and activities. Donors can sponsor these ebulletins in monthly intervals for $72 per month.

Memorial (Yahrzeit) Plaques

Located in our sanctuary, memorial boards contain the names of the dearly departed with plaques lit on the anniversary of their passing. Donors receive an automatic reminder from the synagogue office to light a Yahrzeit candle in their loved one’s honour. Plaques are a popular way to ensure a loved one’s name has a lasting legacy and can be purchased for $250 each.

Tree of Life Leaves

The Tree of Life is located prominently in the foyer of our Community Centre. Its leaves contain the names and inscription messages of the donor’s honourees. Tree of Life leaves can be purchased for $180 each plus the inscription fee.

Oval Bench Plaques

Bench plaques are affixed to the pews used in our sanctuary for religious services. They are a great way to honour someone’s memory and remind others where families would sit during services. Bench plaques can be purchased for $180 each plus the inscription fee.

Shabbat Kiddushes

Following each Shabbat morning service, CBI hosts a congregational kiddush luncheon which can be fully sponsored by a donor. The cost to sponsor a regular kiddush is $300. For an enhanced kiddush, which typically includes hot foods and additional fare, the cost is $400. Kiddushim can be shared by up to three separate sponsors.

For all donations, please email or call our office at 905.685.6767. Our preferred method of accepting donations is via e-transfers, but we accept VISA/MasterCard, cheques or cash as well. Tax receipts will be issued where applicable. Donations to CBI can also be made via CanadaHelps.
