Clubs and Programs
Yiddish Club
Congregation B’nai Israel has had an active Yiddish Club since 2004. We meet every month in our Community Centre and enjoy a fine breakfast together. Our programs are designed for those with a limited background in Yiddish – everything is translated/transliterated so no one is left behind! Programs always include Yiddish songs or Klezmer music, and lots of jokes and humour. At every meeting we feature a Yiddish film or documentary (with subtitles of course!) on a gigantic theatre screen. Games and fun vocabulary are often included.
Choir
The CBI choir developed out of the need for members to reconnect with one another after the Covid pandemic. Officially started in 2023, the choir is made up of dedicated members of our congregation – both men and women – who share a love for expressing their Jewishness through song. The choir lends its voice to enhance prayer services and special events throughout the year. Our musical contributions bring spirit and meaning to a variety of communal occasions. Interested parties can join by contacting our choir leader Maya Chriqui at mtmama@gmail.com.
Stitch & Bitch
Made up of a group of knitters, crocheters and needlepointers of all skill levels, the Stitch & Bitchers are a group of women who share a love of crafting and of talking about it! We meet once a month at a member’s house to work on our latest projects, show off our handiwork and schmooze about our lives for a couple of hours over snacks and coffee/tea. Don’t worry if you’re not handy with a needle…you’re welcome to join in the fun regardless of your skill level. For more information, please contact Mira Piasecki at mirapiasecki@msn.com.
