Chesed

Acts of loving kindness

The Chesed Committee is an initiative designed to provide a helping hand to CBI members and the broader Jewish community who are in need of support. We are a group dedicated to ensuring our entire congregation feels the warm embrace of Judaism and that all feel included, whether it is to celebrate, support or comfort one another. For those of our community who are home bound, we maintain regular contact via phone calls and in-person visits. We also send cards to our members at times of celebration, sickness and mourning. We also arrange for Shiva meals to be sent when possible.

The Chesed Committee has evolved in the last few years, and it now also functions as a social group. We help organize celebratory events throughout the year, like CBI’s annual Chanukah party. Each Purim we bake Hamentaschen for all our congregants, including the home bound. Our Hamentaschen have been such a hit, we will be expanding our services to include fund raising as we prepare other baked goods for sale to the Niagara Jewish community throughout the year.

The benefits of participating in this most sacred of mitzvot are endless. We truly believe that to help one person is to help the world, and we hope the exciting volunteer work we do will ripple throughout our community and beyond. We are a very lively and happy group of people who like to socialize, kibbitz, sing, dance, etc., while we work together. We also have been known to reward our hard work by going out together for a well-deserved lunch! If you would like to join our group, please contact the CBI office.
