About Us
Welcome to Congregation B’nai Israel of St. Catharines located in the heart of the Niagara Region. We are a fully egalitarian synagogue devoted to ensuring inclusivity in all aspects of synagogue life. A diverse Jewish community, we try to ensure that there is something for everyone in our congregation.
Our building, with its exquisite sanctuary, has been designated as an historic site by the City of St. Catharines for its cultural and historical significance. In 2025, our congregation hosted a wonderful weekend celebration as CBI members, past and present, gathered with local dignitaries to mark the 100th anniversary of the synagogue’s opening.
We are a community committed to “being there” for our congregants. We offer regular religious services on Thursday and Saturday mornings. Our learned lay leaders conduct our services with enthusiastic participation from our engaged congregation. We have a strong chesed (kindness) presence to help share in the joy of your simchas or comfort you in times of need. We welcome interfaith couples and families and have an interfaith burial section in our cemetery. Visiting rabbis and guest service leaders are invited throughout the year to provide variety and diversity.
We are wheelchair accessible, have kosher kitchen facilities, and offer multiple venues to hold events.
We would love to meet you and introduce you to our synagogue community.
